The Ophthalmology department is currently headed by Prof. Dr. Zahid Kamal Siddiqui. It has 20 beds to cater the facilities involving anterior segment disorders, orbit and oculoplastic surgery, glaucoma, Medical retina, squint, pediatric ophthalmology, Laser and refraction. It is actively involved in managing and preventing ophthalmic trauma. It is equipped with modern electro-medical equipment including Bio-microscopes, Indirect Ophthalmoscopes, Optical Coherence Tomography, Automated VF analyzer, Fundus Fluorescein Angiography, biometry and USG B-scan. Operation Theatre has state-of-art Operating Microscope and high-quality Phacoemulsification Machine.

Associate Prof Lt. Col(R) M Naeem takes keen interest in learning and training of undergraduates and House Officers of RMDC/PRTH. Asst. Prof. Brig(R) Dr Saleem Bajwa, Dr Nida Usman and Senior Registrar Dr Rayan Zakir are expert surgeons providing services to the patients and training to the students.  

Department takes keen interest in teaching undergraduates, using principles of Adult Learning. Special tools are used in lectures like; Tasks, Role Plays, Simulations and other participatory learning methods. Department has a robust Continued Professional Development Programme. We also hold frequent Eye Disorders awareness and prevention activities.

The goals of Ophthalmology Dept. are to:

  • Serve the community and Pak Rangers Punjab troops and their families treatment and prevention of eye disorders
  • Reconstruct and treat the oculoplastic disorders
  • Manage the orbital disorders
  • Teach undergraduate/ postgraduate learners with interactive strategies
  • Groom the faculty members and trainee staff to improve their skills in continued learning and instruction
  • Create awareness to prevent damage from hazards of modern devices
